And then we turned 7!

I celebrated my business birthday the other week – 7 years as a business owner! Over a cup of tea (and yes I admit a chocolate biscuit or two…) on this rainy afternoon, I’ve just now taken a moment to pause and reflect.

My natural instinct would be to say where has the time gone, and the cliché I am often guilty of rolling off my tongue – “time flies when you are having fun”, however; when I actually think back to where the business started and how my HR consultancy has evolved over the years; I realise a lot has been packed into and achieved in these 7 years, and it is something I am proud of and shouldn’t be brushed off with a clichéd statement.

In the past 7 years I have literally grown from the humble beginnings on my kitchen table (like where many small business start!) to now having my own office with a desk and book shelves and plants (yes, very fancy I know! hahaha).

My development and growth as a business owner has also been significant in many areas, including wearing my marketing hat (which I never knew I had in the back of my wardrobe!) and continually refining my "elevator pitch" and sharing it with anyone who would listen; and who knew I would have the patience and ability to troubleshoot my own IT issues (most of the time anyway)!!! I also love it when I get opportunities these days to share my learnings and knowledge with other business owners as well.

Importantly over the years I’ve continually refined and developed my service offering to align with what clients are needing to ensure I am serving them purposefully. These days I spend a lot of my time working with clients to develop HR strategies and business processes to support an organisation’s overall strategy and objectives. Having alignment in this space can create great organisational outcomes (both to bottom line results and culture); and while I know not everyone finds talking about processes and strategy interesting, lucky for my clients I enjoy doing the heavy lifting in these areas for them!

A huge thank you to everyone who has been on the journey with me so far – not only my delightful clients, but also my wonderful support network. It’s been a lot of hard work, but many laughs along the way too!

Now, back to the tea and biscuits, and thinking about the year ahead!
